RIP Kaiser Franz, what an incredible legend and a really likeable person. The nation will miss him for sure.
I've just written it in the "Death Pool 2024" Thread that this news got me shocked this evening. I knew that he was in bad health for some time but always hoped that he would recover. One of the greatest of all time. A leader on the field. It looked always so easy when he played his long passes, He always played with this elegance, it sometimes even looked arrogant but it wasn't, he was just so technically skilled. Everything he touched "turned into gold", meaning he won nearly everything. German titles (with Bayern and HSV), European titles and with the National team World Cup and Euro as player and World Cup as coach. A true football legend. And I'm glad he played also for 2 years at my club! Ruhe in Frieden/Rest in Peace, Kaiser!
The Greatest centre half that ever lived. RIP to one of my biggest childhood heroes. As an aside, only three men have won the World Cup as player and manager. Mario Zagallo died on the 5th January 2024, Beckenbauer on the 7th. Didier Deschamps would be well advised to stay in bed today with the curtains firmly closed.
with ease. He was in Fifa's World Team of the 20th century: World Team of the 20th Century - Wikipedia Didn't know that Franz was even popular in England. I always thought you Brits hated every German football player per se . Now the Monarchy is really dead in Germany. 106 years after Kaiser Wilhelm II had to abdicate, Germany lost the last Kaiser.
Very sad at quite worrying as he passed at a relatively young age for someone who took care of himself (78). Read on Twitter that he never recovered from his on passing away a couple of years ago, not sure how truth there is to that. Traurig.
Nah mate. Grew up with fond memories of Gerd Muller, Rummenigge, Voller, Klinsmann and many more players to have worn the famous white shirt.
I like Jamie Carragher's tribute . If any defender in England in the 80's at any level of football brought the ball out from the back they would get " who do you think you are , Franz Beckenbauer " . Bayern Munich v Hoffenheim live on Sky Friday night , I imagine lots of tributes .
I've even seen on former TFF someone saying Rio Ferdinand's only weakness was that he thinks he's Franz Beckenbauer. Speaking of Liberos, I remember Lucio carried the ball out from the back for Bayern and dribbled past opponents with ease on so many occasions. In hindsight, Lucio was probably somewhat underrated.
