I’m playing the remake dude so I’ll have a look at that video after my first play through. As someone who didn’t play the OG this is still really good. It feels like a fromsoft game even though they didn’t do the remake My only gripes at the moment are the boss fights haven’t been in any way compelling, and the difficulty. I think Sekiro has ruined all Boss fights for me, nothing compares! Tbf I’m only at 4-1so I’ve only faced a handful but they mostly seem gimmicky rather than a test of skill Difficulty has just increased at the 4th arch stone as it has a dark world tendency? Not sure why that happens or even understand it but at least I’m getting some tougher enemies, and dropping a lot more souls well. World tendency is a mystery to me at this point? I’m up for the game being harder though Parrying seems is easy in this game. I just couldn’t get the timing DS3 or Elden ring. Or maybe that’s because I’ve not long played Sekiro and I’m still a parry god!
The physical and mechanical aspect of the games are identical (though there might be a change in 4 way rolling vs omnidirectional rolling I forget now) so gameplay wise it'll feel like a from game for sure. Anybody going back to Demon's after playing the other games is going to find Demon's super easy lol, there's been 15 years of the players getting better so the bosses have to be harder now. Obviously I'm going to have way more bias towards Demon's since it was my first but I still think that every single boss has more going for it than 90% of their most recent bosses, idk how far in you've gotten but ever boss has some thought put into it that makes them distinct outside maybe a couple of fights. What separates Demon's from the rest though really is just the atmosphere which is why ps5souls ISN'T recommended, butchers basically every part of the game. Black world tendency does increase difficulty and souls drops, other things start happening when you get to pure white or black too. I could explain world tendency to you, but part of the fun of the game when it first came out was the community trying to figure everything out about the game. Parrying has the same timing as dark souls 1.
the game plays really well but I am finding it really easy in comparison to their other games. I think you are right though, it is because we know how to play these games now. The man eaters boss fight would’ve been mind blowing back in 2009. But as a souls vet you expect and generally know how to deal with double boss fights. I found the fight easy. I died 5 times in all of the boss fights in my first play through, and 3 of those were armour spider. Flamelurker was the only toughish fight. I do think the fights were well thought out though. Almost all of them are more than just a straight up fight NG+ However is a ‘massive’ step up in difficulty. A lot bigger than in any other souls game. It’s the Mobs that cause the real problem as they can 1/2 shot you to death. Flamelurker and man eaters were actually challenging. NG+ is tough parrying in this game is easy, almost as easy as Sekiro. Outside of bloodborne/Sekiro I’ve never managed to master the parry timing. DS1 is now the only Souls game I’ve not played. Not sure if the timing is more forgiving or just different in DS3/Elden ring but I just couldn’t get the timing down I can understand that the atmosphere is different. The fact that the graphics are so much better now could be a factor? I’d still say that the second level of the valley of defilement is as unsettling as any area I’ve played in a souls game.
Lol, first time I beat the spider was cheesing it from the safe spot with a bow, the first time I tried it without cheesing it and doing it 'properly' I got wrecked. The Man Eaters were the first hell boss (alongside Flamelurker) who everybody got stuck at and hated, I cheese them too first time you can kill one through the fog gate with a bow or get it to half or something I can't remember now. Yes most of the bosses are a bit of a 'puzzle boss' where they have one crippling weakness (Flamelurker is magic btw) that makes them a pushover or a mechanic to make them doable (like the fools idol with her minion who revives her), the only ones that aren't really like this IIRC are Man Eaters, Penetrator and Old King Allant. Try doing it in pure black world tendency lol. I can't believe you've not played DS1 lol up until the lordvessel it's probably the best from game. It's not even graphics, if you've played the game please go watch that Ratatoskr vid I linked. The best level From have ever done is tower of latria and the remake ruined it, in the ps3 version throughout the whole jail you can hear Lord Rydell moans and shaking of his door, you only hear Once Royal Mistresses singing when you get close to her cell, there's a constant buzz of insects throughout the whole level and all this is changed in the remake. Then once you've seen the vid go buy a ps3 and Demon's Souls copy on it and play the game properly
Just beaten darkeater midr on ds3 ng++. I know all of his moves, I know how to beat him yet it still took me 30+ tries/almost 2 hours for me personally he is the hardest fromsoftware boss. The demon of hatred a close second!
DS remastered has omnidirectional rolling and this is probably why I found the game so easy. It felt almost as responsive as Ds3/BBourne/ER. None of the bosses took me more than 2 goes. DS1 remake has the old 4 way rolling and a couple of the early bosses gave me hell because of this (FU bell gargoyles and Capra demon). 2 horrible boss fights tbh. Ornstein and smough was tough but at least a fair fight! Loving the game but I’ve had a few frustrating moments. First time ever in a fromsoftware game for me
Bell Gargs are easy lol but yeah Capra is a nightmare first time you fight him, the dogs + room it's in makes it horrible but Capra on it's own is piece of piss. Fatboyslim is the best multi boss fight in the series, the soundtrack is godly too.
They are a grind and that is part of the games! Definitely challenging but I’ve had adrenaline rushes after beating some bosses that I’ve never experienced in any other game.
Just beat the bed of chaos. Worst fromsoft boss ever. 2 hours of running around in a panic just to be pushed down a hole by a tree branch. I’m gonna have to find a way if cheesing this on ng+.
You have to be at least somewhat masochistic, but honestly, From games are easily (on average) by far the best games in the industry, very very very few games will give you a rush as much as defeating Ornstein and Smough for the first time when you've been stuck at them for a while for example. Common opinion, Lost Izalith is basically completely unfinished lol. The best way to cheese BoC is to quit to the start screen after you've broken the first orb on one side, you'll be spat back out at the fog gate and it's much easier to get to the second orb when starting from the slope and then again for jumping onto the vine to kill the bug.
I could probably name 2 dozen bosses across their games where I’ve felt like this. Pretty much all of sekiros late game bosses. Absolute Elation beating isshin the first time and just pure relief at finally getting the demon of hatred and owl father
Yeah I was stuck on Isshin for so long lol, felt amazing beating him for the first time. Only other boss in a game that's felt similarly is my first kill of Fatalis in MHW:IB
I’m intrigued to try one. Always liked the look of Sekiro because it has a Tsushima/Shogun feel which I love but I’d want it cheap incase I hated it Demon Soul’s is on PS+ Extra is that a good one to start on?
A lot of people hate that remake but I think it's fun enough, personally. If you've got PS+ then you can get Bloodborne too which is 10x better, despite being a bit dated.
i played Sekiro and ds1 years ago. Struggled with both and gave up fairly quick (literally an hour in to ds1). Sekiro imo is the best from soft game. It’s probably my favourite game of all time, but it’s difficult. You can’t cheese anything, you can’t over level to make an encounter easier and there is no option for on line co-op. You have to ‘get gud’ to progress which is why so many gamers give up early in this game. The mechanics of the game are also completely different to all the other from soft games. This is a rhythm game (like Sifu is) where it’s all about parrying and countering. all of the other from soft games have other ways of getting through tough battles so if your stuck you can upgrade your weapon, level up, call in co-op help etc. bloodborne would be my recommendation for a first game. It was the first one I completed, I don’t think it’s as hard as some of the others and it is a genuine classic, story and gameplay. It doesn’t feel in any way outdated even though it’s 8 years old. You will die a lot to start with but it’s all part of the learning process for these games. If you don’t like bloodborne then you probably won’t like the other games
Do NOT start with ps5 Demon's souls, it's a shit shadow of the real thing. Sekiro is probably the hardest but also the most accessible of the titles imo, hardest because the combat system is the most punishing but also most accessible due to the fact it's not an rpg it's an action game and the title itself is short (if you get good you can be pretty thorough and beat the game in like 6-8 hours). Personally though I'd recommend either Dark Souls 1 or 3 to start with, probs 1 would be the best.
