Think the ref definitely had doubts about whether our keeper had two hands on the ball for Chesterfield goals (personally don’t think he did myself) [100% it gets a VAR check in the PL] hence why he seemed to favour us the rest of the game (the non penalty & no second booking for Wright) imo

We looked awful first half. Slightly better second half. Nothing to get excited about - gonna be a long dull season.

Felt like Chesterfield switched off 2nd half. Bit of a wake up call maybe - this season won't be as easy as the last! But definitely a very good side in there if they can perform like they did in the first half over 90 minutes.

Swindon a very physical side and that might win them a few games but yeah they could do with a bit more technical quality. What a goal from that CB mind!

There is every chance we will be promoted and we have started out that way, showing real intention. Sharman-Lowe concerns me a little after we have had some great goalies. Joe Ironside is an odd one. He ought to score plenty but seems to struggle to get on the score sheet. Maybe that is because he is the target man for the opposition and enables plenty of others to score from behind him. Sharp can replace him after 70 mins and score more goals than Ironside. I can name 4 or 5 Donny players that will score more goals than Ironside by the end of the season.

Beat Salford in the league cup tonight. What on earth has happened to them ? The money dried up ? Just complete hoofball merchants without the ability of Matt Smith upfront anymore

So excited for this season. We made 10 changes tonight and still looked good. Paddy Kelly on loan from West Ham definitely looks like a similar player to Matty Craig last year. Quality all over the pitch and I genuinely can’t believe we’ve got a year of Billy ‘his legs have gone’ Sharp in league 2, he’s ridiculously good

Peter Lim backed out last week so it really is just the Class of 92 in charge now.

Whilst the Class of 92 aren't exactly skint, it was always Lim who was the big money man so one assumes they are just now cutting their cloth accordingly.

What is Grant McCann doing managing a league two side, and what is Billy (at home in the Championship) Sharp doing in a league two side?
2 wins from 2 (league and cup) so far and looking like a real chance we will escape this league. Be interesting to look again at Christmas if we can avoid excessive injuries. How we blew last season I will never know but we have come back stronger this season.

I wonder if they are regretting getting involved now the novelty has worn off. Surely there is only so far you can take a club like Salford.

Yeah it’s going to sound a bit arrogant but it isn’t meant to come across that way at all.. the last two summers we’ve built a really really good squad for this level and I think it has to be said that anything other than promotion would be a failure on McCann and the players. It’s not perfect by any stretch, but there’s quality running right through and Billy Sharp would still do a brilliant job in any top end league one team

After a great day out in Liverpool yesterday it’s back to business with a big one against Port Vale this weekend. In the words of Kevin Keegan I’d love it if we beat them, nothing against them would just love to see us beat Darren Moore

McGrath and Olowu at the back please Grant

Is any team from L2 actually worse off after this transfer window?

It's hard to say for us. We have 5 players left over from last season, and two of those are on the transfer list.

If we went by position, it would probably be clearer:

GK - Luke Southwood to Owen Evans is a step down, so definitely worse off there

Defence - We look more athletic at wing back, with Ryan Haynes replacing Will Ferry at lwb and Arkell Jude-Boyd and Lewis Payne replacing Sean Long at rwb. Long was club captain and had bags of experience though. At centre-back we seem to be weaker with the loss of Lewis Freestone to Stevenage.

Midfield - I think we're stronger in midfield. Yes, we lost Liam Sercombe to FGR, but his replacement is the young Joel Colwill on loan from Cardiff, and he's been our best player so far this season. Luke Young and Harry Pell were good additions to an already ok midfield unit, albeit Pell is out for the season, and with Scot Bennett moving into cdm, I think we're better off than last season.

Forward - Take Matty Taylor out of the squad and our forwards that ended the season scored 5 goals between them last season. We can't be as bad again this season.

It's still difficult to call it, but I think we have improved overall.

Paul Simpson sacked from Carlisle .

Been a disaster for them since getting promoted.

The blatant favouritism shown towards Salford by the Sky commentators tonight is absolutely hilarious. They couldn't make it more obvious if they tried. I suspect whoever this woman is will cry if MK Dons end up scoring.

    Gary Neville approves.

Same commentary team as for our game with Notts County, which is probably why I watched most of the game on mute.

Well last week we were all over Gillingham and ended up losing 0-1 . This week Grimsby have come out and been the better side first half and we’re 2-0 up. You have to love this game.

Another soft 2nd yellow , this time for Oldaker . This ref has been the usual shite that I’d have expected at national league level.

I’m going to hazard a guess this ref is a betting man.

Gillingham had absolutely no joy against our defense today. McGrath was superb and Anderson had a good game too

    McCann and Sharps promotion reds!!!

Two promotion contenders beaten now in Port Vale and Gillingham, were doing well.

Played well in the first half today then dropped off in the second half but did enough to keep the 3 points. Looked as though the ref had a tenner on a Gillingham win, didn't seem to want to give us anything.
