I wont shop at the big chains, but dont know of any decent independant places in Hull. So I rely on the internet... www.opalmusic.com is ruining my life at the moment, great for picking up imports and odd bits of vinyl, it's a bit limited though, all bloody indie stuff, the order list must have been written by a ****ing NME journalist... Anyone else know of a decent, reliable web site where you can pick up rare/obscure stuff? BTW, does anyone use E-bay? I'm registered, reluctanat to plunge in and make a bid though...
for chart music go to www.cdwow.com most albums are £8.99 including p&p, don't rely on these guys to supply your obscure bands tho unfortunately www.musica.co.uk has more of the obscure bands but delivery can take a long time - i ordered a cd before xmas and it still hasn't com yet(altho to be fair it said it could take up to 4 weeks for delivery)
That's why Opal music rules man, I ordered 2 albums and a compilation the other day and it arrived in 3 days dude. Only £25 something for the lot as well.
Media Markt, a cheap, super big, shop in Rotterdam. That shop exists in many countries, so you might know it (English name would be Media Market).
i've started using that music shop thats in shopping gallery bit a few miles away, called terminal records or something, sells the stuff that u dont find in the charts really, like fear factory (i got 'fear is the mindkiller' from there)disturbed, rammstein etc
Fear Factory rule daddio, Fear is a Mindkiler is gash though man. Can't take me apaaaaart du du du, du du du
yeh as i unforutunatly found out demanufacture aint bad, although i like digimortal just for linchpin
I try to use FOPP in Glasgow, which is now a nationwide chain but I dont know if there are any near you. Try www.fopp.co.uk. They generally have most CDs for £10 and always have plenty of older CD's for a fiver - I was in the other day and they had Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica, The Who - Tommy, The Who Live at Leeds, The Smiths The Smiths, The Smiths - Hatful of Hollow, Nirvana Bleach, Velevt Underground & Nico, Lou Reed Transformer, David Bowie Low and Heroes etc etc. I cannot go in there and NOT come out with a CD - impossible. I sometimes have to revert to HMV but I work in a shopping centre where HMV is the only record shop, so I walk past it twice a day, and often with £20+ tips jangling in my pocket...it can be irresistible. Online Amazon always does for me. I got the two EPs from The Music from there when I couldnt find them in any record shop.
Like STID Derricks which is also good for tickets or Sullivans records. Im buying music from asda more at the moment since my mate started work on the music section and gets a neat discount.
Music Mania, an independant shop owned by Mike Lloyd whose entire entertainment went arse-about-face a few years back. A good little shop. Failing that, HMV. Virgin Megastores is complete and utter *****.
Does anyone use E-bay then? I've seen stuff go at really cheap prices, but the whole thing is a bit daunting...
Is sullivans in gorseinon Jack? Anyway, i bought a CD in HMV today for the 1st time in ages, cos i had some vouchers from last christmas (Yes thats xmas 2000  )
I have a store card for MVC which I use a lot. But if Tesco have the album in I want I will usually get it from there coz they let you take the album back if you don't like it. I also buy a lot of MP3s which I know is wrong but there you go
Theres also The Record Factory in Paisley which I havent been in in ages but I was in this morning, had a difficult decision to make, all for a fiver it was between Trout Mask Replica, Who's Next or Transformer (Lou Reed) I plumped for Transformer For online music try - here , or here , or even here . And this might be worth a try too.
