I wonder how many teams after winning the euro's then fail to even qualify for the following euro's...real possibility of that happening with Englandm unless we get something out of tonights game.
Well 2-0 England at the moment. Seems we go into a play-off stage even if we came bottom of the group? "In League A, the top two teams in each group will qualify automatically for the Euro 2025 finals, with the other two teams who finish third and fourth going through to the play-offs - even if they lose every game"
Fine, well deserved win for the ladies in France, still 3rd in the group though, but they've got themselves right back into contention. England recorded their first win in France for 51 years in a women's international and this was the first time France have lost at home since the 2019 World Cup, a run of 21 games.
Yeah it wouldnt be the end of it, but no-one wants the lottery of the playoffs, and given our ranking we really shouldnt have to rely on that. But a great win gives us hope of a top 2 finish.
- The aggregate revenue of Women's Super League clubs went up by 50% to £48m in the 2022-23 season, according to analysis from Deloitte. - The top four revenue-generating WSL clubs were Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United, and they accounted for 66% of the total revenue for the division. - Overall, the pre-tax losses of WSL clubs went up to £21m in 2022-23, from £14m the season before. WSL revenue rose by 50% after England's Euro 2022 success, say analysts Not anything I haven't said before but losses in the women's game have risen again. You've got 12 (men's) Premier League teams in the WSL next season. Very much a case of unless you can run at a loss, you can't compete in the women's game. I feel for clubs like Doncaster Belles, Lewes, London Bees, London City Lionesses, Durham etc who've been long-standing "success" stories in the women's game but will likely get left behind with the way the women's game is going. I don't know how the money is distributed in the women's game but hopefully as the revenues continues growing they'll use it to help those further down the pyramid. The Super League title feels fitting at the moment and I'd argue it's more imbalanced than the men's game is.
Not surprising Miedema has chosen to stay in England but that feels really risky on Arsenal's part. I'm guessing there are concerns around her fitness (ACL followed by a knee injury) because otherwise they've let one of their best ever players go for free and join a title contender in the process. Fantastic signing for City if they can keep her fit.
"Let" is a strange way to phrase it - it's possible they did everything they could to keep her but she was just dead set on signing for City.
Arsenal Women start their CL campaign tonight. They play Rangers and then should they win, face Rosenborg on Saturday. Will still have another two legged match after this.
Alex Morgan: Two-time World Cup-winning USA international announces retirement One of the legends of the game retires. Really unfortunate that her time at Spurs overlapped with COVID restrictions and behind closed doors.
