Interesting wording in Arsenal's statement. They've worded it that he's resigned, rather than he's been sacked which is surprising. Might well be a case of walking before he was pushed but the wording threw me off a little bit. Jonas Eidevall leaves Arsenal
I think that's what threw me. You see mutual consent many a time in these sort of statements but this explicitly says he resigns which just felt a bit unusual to me. It puts the reasoning for his departure more on Eidevall than the club itself. The club obviously haven't fought to keep him from resigning but it was just interesting wording in the statement.
Apparently there was a meeting yesterday and he offered his resignation. No idea who takes over, my knowledge of top managers in the women's game is extremely limited.
Always hard to predict in the women's game. In the men's game, it's usually known who is available and ready to take a PL job In the WSL, a male coach will almost always come out of left field; a foreign coach like Jonas, maybe a young coach from within the Arsenal set up, but not usually any big name. If it's a female, it may be a better known name, but often someone people won't have known was ready for a top job - Maybe an ex player who has been taking her badges without any fanfare. Fara Williams perhaps? Maybe Steph Haughton or Faye White? All have history with the club and would be well respected
Renee Slegers did no harm to her chances of taking the job full time as Arsenal beat Valerenga 4-1 in the WCL. She actually succeeded Eidevall at Rosengard and won back to back league titles so she's not a complete unknown.
Hemp is one of those like Foden that obviously has talent but I rarely ever seem to see play well. Thought she was excellent today, as well as I've ever seen her play. Difficult win but a good win for City. I'm expecting Chelsea to beat Spurs tonight so important that City are keeping pace.
Chelsea got their win as expected. Similar to last week for us, a really bright start and then we concede from Chelsea's first shot on target. We equalised from a long-range effort which I don't think crossed the line but was given anyway. Killer for us was conceding right before half-time. Again. We conceded in the 44th minute yesterday, two goals just before half-time last week, just before half-time v Charlton in the cup and just before the 90 v Villa in the league. Go back to the FA Cup final and we conceded just before half-time before getting blown away in the second half. You can see the improvements in this Tottenham team but we're conceding too many goals and we're conceding too many goals at really poor periods in the game. Chelsea made a tactical change at HT which says everything about their first half, I think 1-1 would have been more than fair on us but we needlessly gave Chelsea that little boost just before the break and it's not a boost they need with their quality. There have been positives in every game but there feels a parallel with the men's side in that we play nice football but we're also nice to play against. I expected us to lose yesterday anyway so it's not the end of the world but there's definitely stuff to work on if we want to start challenging the bigger WSL sides. Anyway, Brighton continued their good start. Arsenal are back to winning ways but really it feels like a title race between Chelsea and Manchester City. It does feel like the levels have gone up this season though, even Palace have started picking up results now so I think it's going to be a very competitive division.
big win for us, first of the season, still with no recognised striker available. Got Hannah Cain back after her latest ACL injury which is a big boost and found out post game that Jutta Rantala is out for a few months with a serious, but not the worst knee injury. Having Mouchon, Petermann and Cain back as striker options and O'Brien back on the wing will make us such a bigger attacking threat. Deanne Rose had her best game for us on the left wing which was good to see as well
Friday we'll have a classic, England vs Germany in Wembley, even at women's football. This time "only" a friendly but it will mark a new era for the German Women's team, nonetheless. After winning the bronze medal at the Olympics the German Women's team lost several key players due to retirement, mainly Goalie Merle Frohms and defender Marina Hegering but the most important is the loss of Captain Alex Popp. She will end her famous career in the white shirt with the "Bundesadler" on Monday at home in a friendly against Australia (at least that's what I read that she isn't in London) after then 145 caps. So it will be a new era for the German Women's team, also with a new Bundestrainer. After interims Coach, Horst Hrubesch, HSV legend, took over again and led the team to Olympic Bronze this will be the first match for new Bundestrainer Christian Wück (former Bundesliga player for Wolfsburg, Nürnberg, Karlsruhe and Bielefeld) and since 2012 Coach for several youth teams of the DFB. Unfortunately we'll also have to play without several injured key players like Lena Oberdorf, Lea Schüller. I bet the new players will give everything they have in this classic encounter even if it's only a friendly. I don't know what to expect from this new team and I hope it will be a good match and may the better team win. I think it will a great experience for the newcomers to play in Wembley and for the experienced, too. Match will be shown live on Friday on German Free TV. Will it also be shown live in UK TV?
It's not going too well at the moment . England are currently 3-0 down. We've only played 30 minutes.
It seems I posted and things immediately improved with two goals for England It has been a ridiculous half of football really. Very open with both teams attacking well but sloppy defensively.
3-2 Germany at half-time. England came back through Stanway. Interesting fact: All 5 goals so far scored by Bayern Munich players ( Gwinn 2, Bühl for Germany , Stanway 2 for England) Great first half, very open match. I'm surprised about the new formed German Team (although I have a feeling that England will turn this match in the 2nd half). Anyway I'd never imagined we would be scoring 3 at Wembley without a real (and experienced) striker
