Don't worry, I won't. I've been away over 40 years now and have neither intention nor reason for going back.

Will space Karen Musk now try to repeat his trick of influencing government on this side of the pond?

He's been at it anyway. He's basically turned his right wing army against Starmer and before he did this most of them wouldn't have known who Starmer even was.

Musk and Twitter is the biggest threat to Western democracy, even greater than Putin and any of the other loony bin countries over that side of the world

I'm confused! Is this a positive thing that I've achieved great heights that someone like this is calling me deluded, or is it a negative to be put on the same level as him?

Edit: It is, however, an interesting response considering there is a story going around that Musk is preparing to throw £100 million at Reform! Now, why would an American citizen want to plough such a vast quantity of money into a very small UK political party?

Because he's just bought the USA and wants another toy to play with. He'll be annoyed that a US judge has just blocked his $56 billion pay award from Tesla, so his attention might be diverted for a little while anyway.

It's weird with Musk. By the time Farage could get into power would be minimum 2029, and even then that would require something truly seismic given how our voting system works. By then Trump won't be in office anymore, you'd hope. It is also plausible a Democrat is in office too.

I also just don't think what you can do with a Trump and the Republicans can happen here. There's a lot of people who hate Trump but will still always vote Republican, it's just a position they take and that vote is entrenched.

Farage doesn't have that as he is outside of the Tory tent, and there's plenty of right leaning Tories who will not vote for Farage. Then if the Tory party is to join with Farage then they'll lose a lot of votes to the Lib Dems in the south who are already well positioned to overtake them at the next election. Not as simple when it isn't a 2 party system.

You actually think that letting people speak freely is a threat to democracy in the west, it's unbelievable

    ah yes, "speaking freely"...

Musk isn't using Twitter to boost free speech at all. He is using it to artificially generate a poisonous discourse. I don't expect you to read any of the below of course though, you dullard.

Elon Musk’s new Twitter algorithm changes are ‘amplifying anger’, say researchers

Changes in Twitter’s algorithms show users are being shown far more tweets that amplify anger and animosity than before, since Elon Musk took over the social network, according to US researchers.

A new study by computer scientists at Cornell University and University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) published on Friday (May 26) looked at tweets being shown to 806 users in February, comparing the content shown on Twitter’s “For You” personalised timelines, as well as the chronological newsfeed.

The researchers found that tweets being shown to people on their news feeds now particularly emphasise “emotional content” and, even if the original intent is not to provoke a reaction, the result made users react more than they might have done in the past.

“We found that the algorithm amplifies tweets expressing stronger emotions (on four different dimensions: anger, happiness, sadness, and anxiety), especially those with anger. Readers also have increased emotional responses after reading tweets from the algorithm, and particularly experience more anger,” the authors concluded.

The researchers also noticed that when political tweets were shown by Twitter’s computer algorithms, user conduct was more likely to change, potentially increasing othering behaviour, including negative beliefs about a group of people in society with opposing views.

Elon Musk reportedly forced Twitter algorithm to boost his tweets after Super Bowl flop

Twitter chief executive Elon Musk rallied a team of roughly 80 engineers to reconfigure the platform’s algorithm so his tweets would be more widely viewed, tech news site Platformer has reported.

A disgruntled Musk called for an emergency effort after a tweet he sent during Sunday’s Super Bowl game failed to achieve as much engagement as a tweet from Joe Biden, interviews and internal documents reviewed by Platformer have revealed.

The effort was sparked when a tweet from the president, who has 37m followers, generated nearly 29m impressions while a similar tweet from Musk – who has 128m followers – generated little more than 9.1m impressions.

Musk has unbanned poisonous vermin from Twitter, removed followers from accounts he didn't like, banned others he didn't like and created a more toxic environment by messing with the 'block' feature.

It's rich you saying this, since when I did point out RDS was sharing harmful misinformation from a (previously banned then reinstated by Musk) Twitter account... none of the mods bothered to remove it on here.

    :hmmm

Imagine using the algo timeline instead of the 'following' timeline :laugh::laugh:

Also this study seems suspect to me, how on earth are they defining stronger emotions.

Perhaps we didn't consider it to be 'harmful misinformation'.

So you don't dispute that Musk's Twitter is clearly utilising the algorithm in a way that would not be to promote free speech at all, but to promote his own tweets and that of certain accounts.

If this was about free speech they wouldn't need to be tailoring the algorithm at all. The bloke got in a hissy because Joe Biden got more interactions then him. That is the billionaire equivalent of taking the ball home because nobody will pass to you.

This is how the algo has always worked, you're just upset it's no longer pushing crazy far left talking points, if you don't want the algo use following.

It's free speech because he's stopped the random and arbitrary banning of accounts just because they go against the current narrative gov is pushing.
