Will be hard for Fortuna to pick themselves up for next season after that. They had it in the bag and blew it, in front of their own fans. The kind of thing that burns bridges and can send a club into a tailspin for a few years if it's not managed right. There will undoubtedly be villains tonight amongst the players and probably manager too. How that's managed will be crucial.
Never? You lucky guy. I had a nightmare in the Euro 1976 final Germany vs the Czechs. Bayern's Uli Hoeneß shot one to the moon. I was 13 and couldn't believe what I saw. I feel sorry for Fortuna. They weren't themselves today. Anyway, next season Fortuna and HSV will be promoted together edit: At least zippy had something to celebrate this season
Apparently Cologne did the same sort of thing a year or two ago ? Guess the pressure got to Dusseldorf with promotion in their grasps .
That was bad but not as bad as tonight. That was only a foot over the bar whereas tonight's was about a meter
Both penalties landed on the moon, though For me this penalty failure of Uli Hoeneß was way more bad than today's of Uchino for Düsseldorf. This one costs Düsseldorf only a promotion to 1.Bundesliga but the 1976 one cost us the Euro 1976 and me as a 13 year old kid many tears, for Düsseldorf's failed one today I didn't shed a tear (up until today it was the only penalty shootout at a major tournament that Germany lost and it was our first one ).
Oi that was @Thijssen At least Posh threw it away at Hillsborough. Fortuna just chucked it away at their home ground.
Yeah my bad. Cursed the poor sods. Have only seen highlights but apparently they weren’t very good at all last night. Looking forward to seeing them in the summer anyway.
2.Bundesliga Relegation: Wiesbaden vs Regensburg 1-2 (1st leg 2-2) So Regensburg is back in 2.Bundesliga after 1 year and Wiesbaden is also back in 3.Liga after 1 year
For promotion to the Drei, auf geht's Wurzburg hopefully to knock out Hannover's reserves. It's bad enough Stuttgart's reserves got promoted ahead of Stuttgarter Kickers (proper club). The Drei has to be the best 3rd tier in the world, just a shame they let the reserves in!
Today was the draw of the 1st round of the 2024/25 DFB Pokal. Starts August 17th Complete list: DFB-Pokal heute | Spielplan & Ergebnisse | 1. Runde | 2024/25 Too bad, zippy, Hildesheim didn't get Bayern but SV Elversberg from 2.Bundesliga. High Flyers SSV Ulm got them (if I remember it right, the Hoeneß brothers are born in Ulm. So, sort of a homecoming ) HSV got SV Meppen from Regionalliga Nord (4th tier). Stuttgart (in Münster) and Bayer Leverkusen (in Jena) will play 11 days later, August 28th. I think it's because both clubs have to play the Super Cup.
Got my eye on Koblenz/Wolfsburg & Saarbrucken/Nurnberg. Wouldn't mind doing Meppen/HSV but given the proximity, I reckon tickets will be hard to get for that one. I remember attending HSV at Chemnitz 5 years ago (HSV won on pens) and they bring loads. Reckon it'll still be the case at Meppen despite the extended stay in the Zwei.
Of course it will be again the case. HSV is one of the best supported clubs away, not only in the 2.Buli but also in the 1.Buli. And it doesn't matter for HSV fans if we are another season in the 2.BL. We just set another crowd record on average in the Volkspark in our 6th season in the 2. Over 56.000 of the 57.000 capacity. That it isn't the whole 57.000 is only due to the fact that in some matches against little clubs like SV Elversberg, the opponent couldn't sell all their away tickets and so the away section wasn't full for these matches. You can expect, though, that the HSV away tickets to any opponent are sold immediately. btw: Kickers Offenbach vs 1.FC Magdeburg is also an interesting match to watch. Kickers is a well supported club in Hessen (played in the 70s in the 1.BL and their rivalry with neighbour Eintracht Frankfurt is well known. Stadium is the Bieberer Berg. Another very interesting match in the 1st round is Alemannia Aachen vs Holstein Kiel. Both clubs just promoted (Alemannia to 3. Liga and Holstein to 1.BL). Aachen's Tivoli is known for good atmosphere (old and new Tivoli). edit: Totally forgot to mention this but, unfortunately, Hannover 96 II could gain the promotion to 3.Liga thanks to the penalty shootout a.e.t. Like you I don't like 2nd sides of Bundesliga clubs in the 3rd tier (highest league they can get), we just got rid of Freiburg II who finished dead last in 3.Liga and now we have another 2nd side. Those 2nd sides are not well supported away (at least in the deciding match in the Niedersachsenstadion (I still call it so because I can't remember those sponsor names nowadays for it) they had 25.000 to watch it.)
Our rcb Josh Knight has joined Hannover 96 , not sure how long his contract is for or anything regarding Hannover 96 but good luck to Josh , along with Gladbach's slow demise I'll now keep one eye on Bundesliga 2 also to see how he gets on .
Good move for him I think. Probably seen the success of Afolayan leaving Bolton in L1 and now playing 1. Buli with St. Pauli. There’s been a few English success stories in Germany now, plus it’s a great country.
